THE PLAIN DEALER, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30. 1991- 7-E 1. 3 Catharine Van Deusen, was teacher, principal Catharine Van Deusen was a Lorain school teacher for more than 40 years and a school principal for 25 of those years. Mrs. Van Deusen, of Sheffield, died Wednesday at Elyria Memorial Hospital emergency room of a heart attack.

She was 80. She was born in Easton, and moved to the Lorain area when her father took a job in a steel plant. She graduated from Elyria High School and earned an undergraduate degree in music at Western Reserve University, now Case Western Reserve University, and went on to earn a master's degree and a Ph.D. in education there in the late 1930s. Mrs.

Schenck died Wednesday at the Avon Oaks nursing home in Avon. He was 87. At an early age, he expressed an interest in owning an orchard and raising apples. Before it was popular for orchardists to attend college, Mr. Schenck enrolled at horticultural school at Michigan State University at East Lansing in the mid-1920s.

He earned his degree in two years. He and his late brother, Walter, bought a 50-acre apple orchard in Avon Lake. Mr. Schenck retired in 1978 and continued to live at the homestead until he moved to the nursing home because of failing health. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Ohio State University Horticultural Society in Wooster.

He is survived by daughters, Van Vleet of St. Johns, and Nancy, Coffin of Falls Church, a John of Rockville, six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Burmeister funeral home, 32000 Detroit Avon. Death Notices FISHER SUSAN M.
