I've already owned my one black car. But the reason it'll be my last wasn't the heat; it was how sensitive it was to dirt/scratches/etc.

Is it because you know I'm the fastest Miata driver around and are afraid to compete against me? Hahaha. I was actually one of the slowest cars there today. For some reason my car just isn't gripping. I think the tires are getting hard as they approach the wear bars. I was hoping they'd get faster as the tread wears down but with today's heat they were greasy from the 1st run onwards.

No more because earlier last week I couldnt make left turns or my car would shut off. I am not sure if I have fixed that perfectly and ont really wana chance my car dieing on the autox course. NOW if you could promise no left turns I might be more inclined. If I dont participate I will definately stop by and watch for a bit.

3. 48.06

Sorry it was such a LONG day. I don't know why that was but we didn't get out of there until around 6:30pm. I was in the 45s all day long until I borrowed Ed's Miata. R-comps are so awesome. I may keep my black wheels just so I can put race tires on them even though they're a little small (14x6). If I had race tires, a strong LSD and another 60-70hp I'd be tearing it up out there. Registration for the next event just opened.

Yeah, me too at the time.

I think a photo of the one I ordered along with a confirmation of shipping, etc.. will have to suffice.

Kyle, just to follow up with what Zack said, he's asking because mentioned to him I overheard Ed talking at the registration table about trying to secure another couple lots before the end of the season. So from what I gathered, no gurantees, but it sounded like CDC is going to try to add another autox or few to the schedule before the end of the year. Lets keep our fingers crossed for another one in Manassas.

Hey! Who's interested in a mini Miata swap meet at my place before winter?

I've got a ton of random parts, a full white Miata shell, and my old DD 95 that I need to get rid of before we move out in Dec/Jan... Any takers on showing up, rummaging, and handing over cash for parts?

I promise, no offer refused! haha

Do you have any spare dasies or other wheels? I totally dont need more wheels but I am on the hunt for 2 oem 14" wheels, even better if they have useable tires.

I just recieved my new all seasons tuesday just waiting on the rims to put them on. 14x7 +12.5!

14x7? What wheels did you get?

On the topic of tires, a friend of mine with an '01 Z06 just spent $1500 on new tires!!!! I told him what I spent on my rt615's and I thought he was gonna cry. I love our tiny ass wheels ...

As for the swap meet, I don't have much to contribute, but I'd be buying. Specifically I'm looking for:
- 90-93 seat belt receiver (the part you plug into)
- suspension stuff, specifically a stiffer front sway bar.

boogie van

6th September 2007, 12:53

diamond racing wheels, painted black. sorta heavyish for a 14" at 15lbs, but I purchased them mainly for looks and to hold my all seasons. And to see what all the fuss is about these low offset wheels anyways. I hear what youre sayin about tire prices, I paid less than $200 shipped for my 4 tires.

Just ordered gorilla blue anodized tuner lugs yesterday to replace my crap rusty autozone ones finally.

Just need to get them mazdaspeed tow hooks and spray them flourescent yellow, thats next I think. So that way if I ever roll out of a parking spot I can get towed back into place. LOL!!

Hey, all you racers... I'm going to ptuning to get an alignment. I totally destroyed the wheels on the passenger side of the car in a fight with a pothole, so I put on my spare set of wheels and my car is sitting in the garage until I can get it aligned.

Who has used ptuning for alignments? They seem to have good rates for custom alignments. I'm thinking of just going with a lanny alignment, but does anyone else have recommendations for aggressive street settings?

boogie van

13th September 2007, 12:32

I give p-tuning an A+++++ on their alignments. With their high tech equipment they hit my numbers right on the head.

Icehawk alignment is virtually the same as the lanny, but with slightly more aggressive camber numbers (approx. -0.5 camber more all around or so if I remember correctly). I have the Icehawk on there right now, I am enjoying it. Icehawk claims even tire wear without rotation, I find you still have to rotate tires front to rear to keep the inside/outside edges from wearing unevenly.

If you look up the user Icehawk, he has a link to his cardomain which has his alignment specs.

Also the forum user/moderator OceanRagtop has a few different alignments on his cardomain page as well, with descriptions of the car's behavior.

I jsut got back from Ptuning actually, but I was not getting an alignment. Just chatting about a dyno day and a new clutch. I would trust them them doing anlighnment no problem. They have done several miatas now with only one problem so far I believe. That problem was also fixed for free as soon as it arose. They have the nicest shop and customer service that I have seen in a long time.

I was thinking of having my new tires mounted there...but its like $30 a tire. pretty pricey considering its not even a roadforce balancer....but I would like to give them business...what to do, what to do

I need to call them and find out if theres any sort of discount for CDC members.

Joey hows your alignment treating your tires? I know you went with pretty aggressive numbers.

shuiend

13th September 2007, 22:52

I think mounting and balancing is 25$ per tire Matt. Thats not to terribly bad.

Braineack

13th September 2007, 23:00

yuk. get Dan's brother to hook you up. I'm used to paying $10 a tire at Costco.

Walmat is said to be $4 a tire for mounting only.

freedomgli

13th September 2007, 23:47

Ptuning is expensive but they've got to pay off all that fancy new equipment somehow. If you're particular about your wheels and don't want them getting scratched up pay the $25 to have Toan mount them up for you. I'll never go back to Radial Tire again after one of their careless tire changers took a nice gouge out of the wheel rim on my formerly perfect Enkei wheels. If they can't even handle some high profile tires (P195/60) on some 14" rims why would I ever consider having them mount low profile tires on some expensive wheels? I don't care how cheap the Radial Tire hookup is for SCCA members. I've only heard of one problem with Ptuning when they were unable to install a used race tire on a Kinesis wheel because for some reason they couldn't get the bead to seat without the center of the tire folding in on itself. That and sometimes you have to wait a while for service. At least their showroom is nice making the wait more bearable. The one thing I wish Ptuning would do is use metallic tape over their stick on wheel weights but that's not really a big deal.

boogie van

14th September 2007, 08:01

I think I paid $25 per tire on my team dynamics to have them roadforce balanced. Tirevan.com came to my office to do it.

intercooler piping
BOV piping
turbo piping
putting the turbo and manifold in the car
wiring up the hydra air temperature sensor
wiring up the hydra electronic boost control solonoid
install boost gauge
install and calibrate EGT gauge

i have beer, cash, fine hard liquor, sex, drugs if you can help...

I heard a nasty rumor....that CDC no longer will have access to the Osburn Park High School parking lot
Sadly, 'tis true. No more auto-x for anyone at Osbourn Park, CDC included. The principal didn't have a problem with the organization, safety, or noise from our events. No complaints were received. Rather, the principal didn't like the skid marks across the white lines that demarcate the parking spaces. He thought it looked disorderly, as though a band of hooligan teenagers had fooled around late at night vandalizing the parking lot doing burnouts in their cars. He didn't want to give the students the impression that such behavior was okay. Nevermind the fact that the skid marks wash away as soon as it rains. :(

WDCR SCCA just lost fed ex. actually, there will apparently NEVER be another auto event held there again. stinks.. :(
I heard it was Ripken Stadium, not FedEx.

At any rate, auto-x in the DC area is dying out. There are a multitude of reasons. Most significant are the value of land (much more profitable to put in a bunch of McMansions or low-cost townhomes), encroaching development (NIMBY), zoning regulations that require new parking lots to have many islands and landscaping for runoff mitigation, and lawyers that wish to minimize their client's exposure to risk.

What the area needs is a benefactor to secure a facility so that we can auto-x, drift, race go-karts, and conduct driver education training. I figure we need about 3 million dollars to get the facility off the ground. Know any investors?

Joey, you mentioned you are worried about your oil pressure? - http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=2723198#post2723198

my gauge, when hot, will start to "build" pressure then "pops" back down to a lower pressure and stays there. very interesting. i'm changing the oil this week so i'll see if that changes anything.. i know i've got a leak somewhere, too.

i'm assuming that the bolts were stretched and the lock washers just didnt cut it anymore.

Joey: I might have to get some info from you about the HPDE's. I really want to give that a try next year. Just need to figure out how to fit under the roll bar, I got it installed last weekend but there is no way I'll pass a broomstick test. Probably try a foamectamy or a Sparco Sprint V bolted to the floor....

i fixed it by buying a hard top.. and the roll bar that goes with it.. don't need to fit underneath it then cause NO WAY was i going to. also, if you get the sparco sprint a lot of organizations require your instructor to have the same equipment that you do. aka, if you have a harness, they need one too. same with the seats you use. as far as i remember...

I got a HDHCHT with the intent of getting a hardtop at some point. If the hardtop nullifies the broom stick rule, I guess I'll have to get one before any track days...

But I still really want to do something with the driver seat though. If I tilt my head back, it goes right over the top of the seat, and right into the bar. I put some SFI padding on there, but that won't help too much if I get rear ended on the street.

yeah, i hear you. i have to "slink" down into the seat on the street too. but i am almost 100% sure the hardtop nullifies the rule. that's why i bought one. keep an eye on specmiata.com classifieds. that's where i found mine.

Have any of you guys ridden on the Washington memorial hwy? The one that starts at DCI from old town Alexandria? I was my first fun run since 02. Anyway since moving here a few months ago it seems lots of people hate the miata they drive or at least feel no need to give a fellow miata driver a nod in traffic. I would love to get together with a few fellow drivers sometimes soon.

y8s

23rd October 2007, 23:31

GW Parkway, yeah, I take it every morning to work.

I dont think people generally hate the miata. I dont wave anymore either. If I make eye contact I might nod. Usually I just floor it and leave everyone in the dust. No time for taking my eyes off the road!

Keep an eye on this thread, you'll see meets or whatnot pop up once in a while.

Im about ready for it to stop raining.

my new narrower tread is noticeable in the rain, although when I have noticed it slipping, its just a little and not out of control. I need to get out to the parking lot behind my office tomorrow morning while its still wet out to get a feel how these tires react to being pushed when its wet out.

that said, I think my avons @ the wear bars would be doing worse.

freedomgli

27th October 2007, 10:09

I love the rain in some respects. If I'm in the right mood you can toss the car around pretty easily and I can kick the back end around with little/no wear on the rear tires which is also good for me since my Miata still has the wimpy 1.6L rear diff. I can remember driving down route 50 between DC and Annapolis earlier this year and there was so much rain my car was hydroplaning all over the place at 70mph so I dialed it back to a more reasonable 60mph and was fine. But it was exciting those first few big puddles I hit. I just had the front tires flipped on my the rims of my BMW to eek some extra life out of them (my toe is messed up and causing excessive wear) so now they don't channel water the right way. So at speed I've got to be careful but last night just cruising around in 2nd gear I was practicing kicking it out.

Braineack

27th October 2007, 13:16

mmmm now to go take some good logs with my new exhaust.

I was hitting 12psi at 3500RPM in the rain ;)

before the exhaust and headwork it took 4200-4400RPM to hit 12psi.
