The Smith & Wesson J-Frame is a popular small-frame personal defense revolver on the market. It has a reputation for reliable performance and offers models that can fire .22 LR, .22 Magnum, .38 S&W Special, and the more powerful .357 Magnum loads. Smith & Wesson offers these revolvers from production, M&P, Pro Series, and Classics lines in three diverse hammer designs: internal, exposed, and shrouded. The 317 is built on Smith & Wesson’s compact aluminum alloy J-frame and features a 3-inch barrel with a fixed ramp front sight and an adjustable rear sight. The revolver is extremely portable at a mere 12.5 oz., but also comfortable to shoot with laminated finger-grooved wood grips. The balance on the wheelgun is excellent, and the .22 revolver’s trigger lives up to Smith’s reputation for excellence.
