First of all, our spring break vacation to Orlando, Florida was super fun....and cold. Yes, you heard me correctly...COLD! It's March and it's spring break. It's supposed to be warm! Two weeks before we left, I was stalking the10 day weather forecast in Orlando and it consistently reported high 70s/low 80 degree fahrenheit weather for the week we would be there. I was so happy and so super excited to be at Disney World walking around enjoying the warm weather. I was also looking so forward to driving up to St. Augustine Beach and dipping my toes in the warm white sand and have the waves splash over my feet while holding a refreshing drink in hand. But that did not happen.

Ya'll...it was rainy and cold. I was so mad! I don't like cold weather and I'm still not over the weather we had! So this is what we experienced...for the first two days in Orlando, the highs were in the low 60s. It also rained for almost an entire day. We walked around Universal Studios in the rain and waited in forever long lines...again in the rain. Not fun. But, it did finally get a little better The last day we were there, it got up to 79 degrees fahrenheit. That was on St. Patrick's Day and it was so fun to spend the day at Epcot on St. Patrick's Day enjoying a wine pass around the world!

I was really looking forward to enjoying a nice and refreshing co*cktail while at the beach. But it just didn't happen this time. When we landed back in Phoenix, AZ, I was smacked in the face with our 93 degree hot weather. Yep, we stay really warm here almost year round. Now why couldn't we have this weather in Florida over spring break?! And I still wanted my refreshing co*cktail! So, I decided I'd treat myself to one of my favorite mixed drinks when I got home...a Singapore Sling.

And in stepsDrizly! Do you remember me talking aboutDrizlyin my Green Apple Martini post? Here's a refresher for you on how it works. Again, it’s brilliant. I love their business model and it puts a smile on my face! Drizly workswith local stores so you can shop their shelves using a smartphone or computer to order beer, wine and liquor at the touch of a button. You just go to their website, enter your address so their site can list what stores they participate with in your area and you can shop online. Then that store will pack it up and deliver it to you! Sometimes within a couple of hours!I orderedmy Bombay Sapphire from Drizly here!

My dad introduced me to this Singapore Sling co*cktail Recipeyears ago. Does that sound odd?. A parent introducing me to an alcoholic beverage? LOL - but seriously I really enjoy spending time with my dad. He's always telling me stories about his childhood and we have some of the best conversations! Dad and I like to smoke a variety of meats such as Smoked Brisketand Applewood Smoked Chickenand while we wait for the long process of smoking to occur, he always brings over the ingredients to make his signature Singapore Sling co*cktail Recipe.

Every single time my dad orders this drink at a restaurant, the bartender has no clue how to make it. My dad has to write down the ingredients for the bartender. This drink originated in 1915 and used to be super popular. The history behind the Singapore Sling co*cktail Recipe can be found here, but my dad's version of the recipe is way better than the original.

When making this, you should use a really good quality gin. I love using Bombay Sapphire in my Singapore Sling. To me, Bombay Sapphiredelivers a broader, more balanced flavour. Read more about Bombayhere. Love their gin!

It's super sad because Singapore Slings aren't as popular as they used to be but they are so super yummy! Even though a Singapore Sling is typically enjoyed in the spring/summer season, dad always makes this wonderful co*cktail at Christmas time. In the winter, we top our drink with a cherry and a slice of orange to bring out some of the warm tastes and smells of Christmas. In the spring/summer season, I enjoy a fresh raspberry and lime wedge in my drink. To me, my dad's recipe for his Singapore Sling tastes a lot like a sweet tart. It's so super yummy and I know you're going to enjoy this co*cktail regardless of the time of year!

Thanks daddy for sharing your recipe with the world! And thanksDrizly for making it super convenient to get the ingredients needed to make my favorite mixed drink.

Notes

Gluten Free Information:

Per my research, Bombay Sapphire released this statement about their gin and gluten.

"The alcohol used in processing the gin does derive from grain, corn, wheat, and rye. Therefore, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE and BOMBAY ORIGINAL Gins may contain trace amounts of gluten, because some of these ingredients are outsourced. The exact quantity is unknown. If you still have questions, we suggest you contact your doctor as to whether or not you should consume such beverage products before consumption."

Welcome to bizarre Florida weather -- I live here, so I know how it changes up in an instant. The only thing predictable is it's unpredictability. Funny because when I want a vacation -- I specifically look for a place where I can wear jeans and a sweater. LOL! I've never had a singapore sling, but that color reminds me of Kool-Aid - must try!

I love Florida! We spent our summers there when I was growing up. I never experienced a cold day in FL until this trip. Or maybe as a child, I was always too excited to notice lol! Enjoy the drink!!

That happened to us when we went to the Turks and Caicos one year. It was chilly, rainy and overcast and so windy that we stayed indoors for the first three days of our vacation and played board games. Glad it warmed up for you and you got to enjoy Epcot!

I cannot imagine cold weather in Florida. Hope you get some better days to enjoy soon.

Nothing better than enjoying a good co*cktail on the beach, but failing the beach, anywhere relaxing will do. This Singapore Sling is a good classic, and a great mix.
