When making salt scrub recipes grain size matters. Coarse salt can be painful to rub on skin. For salt baths I don't find grain size a big deal, I like to use what I have on hand.

Some people use baking soda in DIY bath salts but I just like using salts, carrier oil, and drops of essential oils in my homemade recipes.

Bath Salt Ingredients Needed:

  • 1/2 cup Salt of Choice (Epsom salt, pink Himalayan salt,orsea salt)
  • 2 tablespoons Carrier Oil of Choice(jojoba oil, fractionated coconut oil, or sweet almond oil)
  • 6-8 drops Essential Oils of Choice

Step 1: Place 1/2 cup of desired salt or salts to a glass bowl.

Step 2: Mix in 2 tablespoons of desired carrier oil (like jojoba oil or sweet almond oil).

Step 3: Add 6-8 drops of essential oils of choice to bowl (or choose recipe below and add essential oils per recipe).

Step 4: Mix all ingredients together with a spoon.

Step 5: Add dried herbs, flower petals, &/or color if you desire (optional). Transfer to astorage jar until ready for use or if you plan to give as a gift. If you are ready to use it in a bath, you can skip this step.

How To Use Bath Salts

First, fill the tub with warm water that is comfortable to step into. You want to avoid hot bathwater.

Before getting in, add bath salt to the water and swirl with hand to blend in. You will want to use 1/4 cup-1/2 cup of bath salt for a regular-sized bath. Soak in the bath for about 15-20 minutes.

If you have an extra-large bathtub, youmaywant to use the full recipe of 1/2 cup of bath salt.

These recipes make about 1/2 cup (4 oz), you can double or triple the recipes and store them for future baths if you like the blend, or give them as gifts. An 8 oz mason jarequals 1 cup, it is a good gift-giving size.

How to Use Homemade Bath Salt for Foot Soaks

A nice, relaxing bath may not always be possible. A foot soak can be a great alternative. They can soothe sore feet and improve foot health.

If you want to use these recipes for a foot bath you can.

  • Fill a foot basin with warm water
  • Add 1 tablespoon towater and swirl the water to mix
  • Soak feet for 15-20 minutes or until the water becomes tepid
  • Dry feet well and follow up with foot moisturizer

*Caution: Bath salts can make the bathtub slippery.Make sure to rinse your bathtub out well after done bathing with bath salts to remove any oil residue.
